Day of Mourning - April 28
Each year on April 28, we commemorate those who have lost their lives, been injured, or became ill due to work-related incidents. The National Day of Mourning is a powerful reminder for all of us to renew our commitment to improving health and safety in our workplaces. On April 28, please take a moment to not only remember those we have lost but also use this day to raise awareness of health and safety and the importance of creating a culture of prevention in the workplace to avoid injuries and illnesses.
Alberta lost 144 people to workplace injury or illness in 2025.
Prayer for the Day of Mourning
Loving God, you are the one who is with us in our grief. You say, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."
Gracious Father, comfort those who have witnessed tragedy and hurt. In our prayer, help us to remember those who have been killed or injured in the workplace, their friends and families, and their colleagues, who are often left in despair and anguish. Give them the knowledge of your unfailing love and everlasting peace and may they be comforted by your support and guidance. As we remember the lost and injured, help us to commit to workplace safety and health. Be with us in our loving, in our holding, in our remembering, and in our trusting. Let us be instruments of making your heart visible in the world, through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
